Colleges, mainstream Sixth Forms and adult learning

The Sheffield College is a general Further Education College. They offer lots of courses and apprenticeships. These prepare young people for employment, university and adult life. 

They will find the right package for the learner’s individual needs.

They support students who have an EHC plan and those with the following additional needs:

  • physical or mobility impairments
  • visual or hearing impairments
  • communication and learning difficulties
  • dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia
  • Autism and Asperger syndrome
  • medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes and heart disease
  • mental health difficulties such as depression

They have a team of qualified and experienced specialists to support students with:

  • physical access
  • personal care
  • adapting course materials
  • specialist equipment and resources
  • specialist provisions

Sheaf Training Centre is a college of further education in Sheffield.  They can support young people with a range of needs - with or without an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan.  Needs such as:

  • physical or mobility impairments
  • visual or hearing impairments
  • communication and learning difficulties including autism
  • learning difficulties / disabilities
  • social, emotional and mental health difficulties

Their High Needs study programmes are delivered on-site at Sheaf Training Centre.  They prepare young people for their next steps.  This could be for further study or work.

These mainstream schools and colleges all have a Sixth Form.  They can all accept young people with SEND and those with EHC plans.  Contact the school or college for more information.  Sixth Form applications need to be made by 31 January through www.sheffieldprogress.co.uk.

The Family Adult Community Education Service (FACES) is part of Sheffield City Council.  They offer adult learning courses in community settings across the city.  These are for adults aged 19 years and over.


Courses run throughout the year during term time only. You can enroll in September, January or April.
