The Peer Support Team

Who are the Peer Support Team

Sheffield’s Family Hubs have a dedicated Infant Feeding Peer Support Team who work closely with Midwives and Health Visitors to provide information and support during pregnancy and after baby is born.

The Peer Support Team offer support during pregnancy to chat through what to expect when baby arrives. This may include a conversation about the benefits of skin to skin and breastfeeding so that you can make an informed choice, responding to baby, such as feeding cues, and a chance for questions about any aspect of feeding and caring for a newborn baby.

Our Peer Support Service will then call within 48 hours of discharge, offering support, advice and reassurance regarding feeding and caring for the new baby.

What the Peer Support Team offer

The Infant Feeding Peer Support Team offer one-to-one support, both face to face and via telephone, for as long as the support is required for all Sheffield mums.

Support is offered to all mothers and families regardless of the way they feed their babies.

The service also offers weekly breastfeeding support drop-ins, in various venues across the city. Breastfeeding drop-ins offer a chance for ongoing breastfeeding support and encouragement, as well as a chance to make new friends with other mums and babies on a similar journey.
