Do you want to meet other people in your local area who are expecting their babies at a similar time to you?

The Preparation for Birth and Beyond course gives people expecting a baby the chance to get the most up to date information on birth, feeding and caring for their babies from fully qualified and experienced staff.

Preparation for Birth and Beyond - 5 week antenatal course

A 5-week antenatal course delivered jointly by Health Visitors, Family Hub Workers, Midwives and Infant Feeding Peer Support Workers.

It is aimed at first time expectant parents who are between 28 and 34 weeks pregnant. The course covers a wide range of topics to prepare you for the arrival of your baby

All Dads and partners are invited to attend. 

Come and meet other parents and find out about:

  • what your baby needs during pregnancy and beyond
  • becoming a parent, and what it means in practice.
  • local support available to you
  • labour and birth
  • caring for yourselves and your baby
  • feeding your baby

It is delivered face to face and virtually to accommodate you

Are you 28 weeks pregnant+? Do you and your partner want to come to a one-off session of 2 hours to meet other parents to be, and discuss preparing for the arrival of your baby?

Antenatal Conversation

What is an antenatal conversation
We offer all pregnant people an antenatal conversation, if you would like to discuss this and have not had a call from an infant feeding peer support worker please let us know.
We will talk about: 
  • Brain development and what it is like for your baby in the womb
  • Skin to skin contact with baby
  • Feeding once baby arrives
  • Benefits of breastfeeding for parents and baby
  • Responding to baby’s needs and feeding cues
  • Milk supply / colostrum
  • Hand expressing
  • Support offered by the Family Hubs and ongoing support after baby has arrived
  • Safer Sleep (The Lullaby Trust) 

Plus any information that you would like to know about 

An antenatal conversation can be offered in a variety of ways: 
  • 1:1 or group face to face in a Family Hub/Venue of choice
  • An online group, using Microsoft Teams
  • A 1:1 online video call, using Microsoft Teams / Zoom
  • If parent chooses, this can also be a telephone call
